Goalkeeper Training

Become A Stronger Keeper

The goalkeeper in soccer is a difficult position to define — and even harder to play. They are the only player who can’t afford to lose focus for even a millisecond — or the ball ends up in the net. As we tell all our keepers: we are a little outrageous, fearless, and maybe a little crazy. As trainers and coaches, we have found that the techniques and mindset of successful goalkeepers are particularly challenging to instruct, transfer knowledge, and train.

The most common questions from coaches is: “How can I make my goalkeeper better at a specific skill?”

The main complaint we hear is: “My goalkeeper isn’t playing at the level needed.”

The answer is always the same: If you want your goalkeeper to improve or play at their optimum level, they need to participate in goalkeeper-specific training with other keepers.

Physical Skills Developed in Goalkeeper Training

Goalkeeper-specific training includes all physical aspects such as:

  • Mechanics
  • Technique
  • Form
  • Footwork
  • Shot-stopping
  • Ball control
  • Diving
  • Distribution
  • Set position

It also includes training and discussion around other elements:

  • Tactics
  • Strategy
  • Positioning
  • Communication
  • Mental strength
  • Emotional control

Using positive recognition and constructive feedback, we aim to improve both the physical and mental sides of their game. Most importantly, we hope to build their confidence and belief in themselves — pushing them to play at their highest level and accomplish things they didn’t know they could.

Our Approach To Goalkeeper Development

The key to transferring the knowledge and skills of goalkeeping so that GKs can process, train, implement, and execute in real gameplay is to break down the complex dynamics of the position — both mentally and physically — by training in phases. These phases are building blocks that develop all the essential skills needed to play the goalkeeper position.

Group & Individual Training Sessions

When a team loses, the perception is often that the goalkeeper let in too many goals. As GK coaches, our mission goes beyond skill development. We focus on preparing them mentally to deal with goals, losses, and setbacks — and then move forward, ready to step in net for the next play or game.

Preparing For Real Challenges In the Net

Building Leaders Between the Posts

Above all, we aim to help them build confidence, self-belief, and leadership — so they can be the backbone of their team.
