Elite Academy League Teams

Elite Academy Teams

The Elite Academy League (EAL) is a youth soccer platform in the U.S. designed to provide top-tier competition and development for players and clubs outside the direct MLS NEXT structure. Wave Soccer Club is one of a select few clubs in the Twin Cities area that have been chosen to start competing in the Elite Academy League starting in Fall 2025. If you are a serious soccer player looking to compete in national showcases, consider joining one of Wave’s teams.

“Joining the Elite Academy League is a major milestone for out club and a testament to the dedication of our players coaches, and families. This opportunity allow our player to compete at the highest level while continuing to grow in a player-first environment. We’re proud to bring this platform to our community and to compete against top teams both regionally and nationally. We’re especially excited for the showcases the EA provides, giving our players the chance to perform in front of college coaches and scouts!”

Purpose and Vision

  • The Elite Academy League unifies elite-level competitive clubs across different regions (conferences).
  • It was built on the standards of past elite platforms like the Development Academy (DA) and integrates with the MLS NEXT structure.
  • The goal is to extend best practices across a club’s entire player pool, not just its top-tier MLS NEXT teams.

Key Features

1. Membership Standards

  • Clubs are accepted based on their competitive quality, market representation, and ability to benefit from the league.
  • Most member clubs also have teams in MLS NEXT, making Elite Academy League a complementary platform.

2. Shared Infrastructure

  • The league maintains high standards while enabling collaboration between clubs, particularly within conferences.
  • This allows for strategic alignment across youth development programs.

3. Player Flexibility

  • Players are allowed to participate in High School Soccer, something that was restricted in the former DA.
  • Revised substitution rules promote broader use of the player pool and better showcase opportunities for college recruitment.

Why It Matters

  • The Elite Academy League provides flexibility, opportunity, and high standards for players not always in the MLS NEXT spotlight.
  • It also acts as a developmental extension for clubs, ensuring that more players within an organization benefit from elite training and competition.
